The Polar F11 is probably one of the most popular and well known heart rate monitors that Polar have produced. The reason for its popularity has a lot to do with the amount of features that are packed into this little package. The F11 truly punches above its weight and many happy customers described that using the hrm is like having their very own personal trainer on their wrist.

For most people keeping fit and healthy requires a lot of discipline and motivation. Whether we are cycling, swimming, jogging or any type of active sport,we need all the motivation we can get to help us achieve our fitness goals and this is were the features of the Polar f11 heart rate monitor really comes into its own.

Creating Your Own Work Out Program

Polar's revolutionary Keeps U Fit system enables you to create your own  workout program and training targets. Depending on your fitness level you can select how many times you want to exercise during the week and set yourself the fitness goals you want to achieve within each training session. By inputting your personal data such as your weight, age and gender the Polar f11 will design a specific training session that will include targets relating to distance, time, and how many calories to burn. The F11's  unique OwnCal feature counts the calories and fat you burn and the Own Zone feature will instantly estimate the day's
target zones.

The Polar f11 software uses a formula to calculate your maximum heart rate based on your own fitness level. This heart rate calculation is used to develop exercise sessions that enable you to train at  60 to 70% and 80 to 90% of your maximum heart rate during each session. Many reviewers have said  the Polar F11's is very sensitive  to changes in your heart rate particularly, when you begin training with a warm up, as it automatically readjusts its calculations based on your current rate at the time.

Monitoring Your Results

This heart rate monitor can store up to 24 previous training sessions which include your calories burned and your average heart rate as a % of the maximum target. One of the great features is of Polar fitness watches are there ability to down load this information to your computer so, you can monitor your progress. The Polar team have created the Polar personal Trainer website were you can upload your training results. This is a great feature for serious sports enthusiast because it allows you to design your own personal training calendar. You can choose from a variety of sports like running, swimming or cycling and  tailor your training program based on your own endurance level and the number of sessions you want to take. Your results are compiled on a weekly basis showing the number of exercise sessions per week including the duration, distance, energy expenditure, and heart rate. This is a great way of measuring  your performance against your fitness goals and is a great motivator for many users.

Polar Heart Rate Monitor Transmitter

The Polar P11's  improved WearLink 31 Coded Transmitter eliminates interference from any other heart rate monitors. The transmitter can be attached to the chest strap by a simple snap faster that is easy to remove. The elasticated chest strap houses the transmitters sensors and by removing the strap the transmitter automatically turns off so, you can wash the chest strap separately. The P11 is water proof to 100 feet and be used to measure your heart rate while  swimming in the pool or at the beach. The only thing us you can't press any buttons whilst you're in the water. The best thing to do input your settings before  before diving in.

Conclusion

Overall the polar f11 heart monitor  has proved to be very popular receiving many positive reviews from customers. The main thing that stands out is the many features that have been built into this HRM based on feedback from many of Polar's customers. The overriding benefit that people get out of using it, is  how it helps them keep on track of their training goals. By seeing how you perform in real time and the convenience of downloading your results really helped people stay motivated and focused on their goals. On Amazon the F11 has on average received 4 to 5 stars from people who have bought it. There were a only a few negative reviews  from Amazon  as follows:

Before buying this product beware that the transmitter Amazon are advertising is the Polar WearLink 31. What was delivered was the older and and standard Wearlink transmitter which is inferior to the 31.

Bad point is the instructions. It took me ages of fiddling around to find the settings so much so that I wondered whether I had been sent the instructions for a different model. They are not step by step instructions of what do Keeping the chest band clean is a little time consuming a maintenance free system like my former polar F4 would have been better.

One feature is  you can download your data and this where the HRM falls short. The set up is not straight forward,, and it needs to link to the polar website rather than downloading a program which would be more convenient. However, I have had (so far!) no problem downloading my data, although it is via sonic link, it could do with a USB port. The diary is a great feature as it records your data and you can pour over it to your heart's content.

Because the Polar P11 has so many features it is important to go through the manual and make the most of what it can do. Before you use it you will need to set your heart rate limits to comfortable levels based on your current fitness. Basicly, there 3 zones, with zone having the least exertion, zone 2 is suitable for moderate training sessions to burn fat and zone 3 is for cardiovascular workouts. Each zone will be calculated on your resting heart rate and once you have set this the monitor will set off an alarm to warn you that your pace is either too slow or fast.

This monitor comes in a variety of colors from  grey pepper, blue and the polar f11 pink watch is a particular favorite with the ladies.
